SITANDA 20, comes down with shopping bags.

Sitanda is a very BEAUTIFUL AND CLASSY GIRL. SHE IS ON A NICE TOP AND A MINI FLARE SKIRT COUPLED WITH A KNEE BOOT HEEL.

She walks glamorously towards her flat.

INT.    SALOME FLAT – DAY                                                                             

MUSIC LOWERS

SALOME 20, walks into the living room, holding her hair backwards with her hands - like packing it as Trish enters

TRISH

Sitanda just drove in.

SALOME

And what should I do with the info?

EXT.   LIBERTY HALL I – DAY                                                                         

Four ladies RACHEL, RONKE, YEMI and UNI are sitting outside the compound at a corner

They are dressed down; some in their short wears; doing one thing or the other

Yemi is filing her nail

Rachel is engrossed in a beauty magazine

Ronke is plaiting Uni’s hair

INT.    BARON SALON – CONTINUOUS – DAY                                             

THE ATMOSPHERE SEEMS HOT.

Alexis is shouting on top of her voice at Mandel while she does her customer’s hair in a displeasing way. Everyone seems not to mind them.

ALEXIS

Why did you have to call her when I did huh? Why?!

Mandel, who seems to be calm and busy, looks at her.

MANDEL

Would you keep quiet for a sec?

ALEXIS

(screaming)

Of course you would say that. I am the lousy one here while you on the other hand are so gentle. You always do that!

MANDEL

What else do you want me to do? You said you called her first, I released her and she’s with you, so what is your problem now?

ALEXIS

(screams)

I—

She looks at Chika beside her and snatches the weave on from her hand angrily.

ALEXIS

Get out, get out of my side! I don’t need you, go back to him!

Chika looks sad; she looks at her and walks slowly and reluctantly back to Mandel. Alexis sees that

ALEXIS

Chika jitters and stand in the middle of the room in confusion

Alexis starts combing her customer’s hair in a very rough and annoying way in anger. The customer shifts in pain on her seat stopping Alexis pounces on her.

ALEXIS

EXT.   LIBERTY I – DAY                                                                         

They all look at Ronke in confusion, she just focus on her hair plaiting while she laughs

RONKE(CONT’D)

Hmm... Some girl will try that with my Jaidon, she wan die?

YEMI

(softly)

YEMI(CONT’D)

(hisses)

We all know that one na thuggery na; not thug this time cos thug is a low version of thuggery.

THEY ARE ENEMIES

Ronke is plaiting Uni’s hair.

YEMI

Rachel, I heard you went to make your hair at Baron yesterday.

RACHEL

(not looking up)

Yes. You see, those people need to be shown we are not equal; they might be living in Liberty II but we were the first Liberty, we are their leaders in everything and we can make hair in Baron too.

RONKE

Man, they are too full of themselves, arrogant even in class they feel they know it all.

UNI

Arrogant is an understatement; I don’t know what they have that we don’t.

YEMI

For a starter, you can park into Liberty II.

They all stop abruptly and give Yemi an annoying look.

A GIRL AND HER SPIRIT

INT.           SIMI HOUSE:BEDROOM – NIGHT                                                

Simi is lying in bed; she’s rolling up and down, seems something is bothering her mind

She sits up thinking

VOICE

You don’t need me in this; just let this go.

Simi stands and start to walk out of the room

SIMI

How can I?

INT.    BARON

TONIA

If you ask me, that hair was still shining, you could atleast leave it for another week.

SIMI

(smiles)

You know I can’t leave a style on for more than a week; you should get used to it already.

SHE NEEDS A FLATTIE

INT.           SITANDA FLAT – DAY                                                                     

TANIA

You think getting a flattie would solve it? I would just tell you to tell your dad

SITANDA

I just need a flat mate for a month or two so.

TANIA

You know your dad must not get to know you have a flattie.

HE NEEDS A HOUSE

EXT.          CAMPUS

DAVEY(CONT’D)

I heard you girlfriend’s friend is looking for a flattie.

BREN

(frowns)

HE BEATS HER

INT.           JERRY HOUSE

JERRY

Tracy!

Tracy rushes in at the yell

SLAPS

Jerry lands a hard slap on her face, she falls on the couch holding her face; she whimpers.

He pounces on her and beats her madly.

INT.           BARON

A stylist TONIA, is attending to a woman, SIMI. She is wiping her wet hair with towel.

YOLANDA

Trust me it’s more than crazy if you hear it all; the guy actually has a whip for her in the house. I didn’t know until they had issues and she told me everything she’s been going through. She has lost many pregnancies because of the beating ‘cos anytime he beats her, he targets her tummy and hits it continuously hard

Everyone in the salon listens to the two ladies but says nothing though they are heating up in their seats.

Alexis is making hair for a customer. The customer hms at the comment. Alexis chuckles. They talk to each other voice.

CUSTOMER

(softly)

I’m sorry, when I’m not crazy, a man would treat me like that?

ALEXIS

As a matter of fact, a man wouldn’t treat you like that if you are crazy. Some women are just fools.

LADY#5

What! They are not married?

YOLANDA

(shakes head)

No they are not.

LADY #5

They are not married and they are living together?

YOLANDA

Yes; she packed her bags to her house.

Simi who has been shifting on her seat couldn’t take it any longer. She excuses herself from her stylists and looks at Yolanda.

BARON

VOICE

(snaps)

No I can’t! she is suffering, he is hurting her.

VOICE

(looks back sharply; frowns)

INT.           KITCHEN                                                                                                         

Jerry brings out a whip and starts lashing Tracy; she screams in pain dropping on the floor. He whips and kicks her in the tommy; she cries in pain and gasps like she’s dying.

Suddenly Simi’s spirit enters her on the floor. She stops crying instantly and looks up at him

A strange power overtakes her. She becomes extra strong.

MUSIC STARTS PLAYING: REDEMPTION SONG

INT.           SIMI HOUSE – NIGHT

Simi appears on her bed, gasping for breath.

VOICE

I warned you against this; you know when you do this it reduces your life span.

SIMI

That’s why I change my hair every week; that should count for something.

VOICE

Yes; but not compare to you doing nothing and now you have Tracy’s life; who knows what characters she has.

INT.           SITANDA FLAT - DAY

Sitanda rushes in and closes the door instantly, resting on the door with her eyes widen in confusion

TANIA

What do you mean you don’t know? What does he want?

SITANDA

The impossible. He wants to be my flattie

Tania springs up.

TANIA

(raises brows)

What?

INT.           RONNY HOUSE

Ronny opens the door.

SIMI

Hey baby.

RONNY

Baby.

They hug.

He looks happy to see her but shocked and confused seeing her bags.

RONNY

What’s happening? Where are you coming from?

SIMI

From home and coming here; you know I gave it a lot of thought and decided to move in.
